7 Random Things: Kim

School has been back in session for over a month and I feel like we’re finally settling into a good rhythm full of sports, birthday parties, and back to school functions. Minus our usual dose of illnesses, it’s been a good start to the year and I’ve been feeling productive with the extra time! I had some fun dinners with friends, checked out the Barbie Popup, and we celebrated Connor’s 2nd Birthday and Clark’s 39th birthday. I also just co-hosted my first open house and LOVED it. I’m excited for this new career path and can’t wait to help more people find their next homes. As always, any referrals are so appreciated! Follow along my real estate journey here.

Recently I decided to commit to a “Sober October” to see how I feel for a whole month without any alcohol. I’m not a big drinker but I love a few glasses of wine or a good cocktail a few nights a week. I noticed as I’ve gotten older, my hangovers/exhaustion are so much worse even if I only have 2 drinks. I’ve never done a “Dry January” or “Sober October” before but wanted to give it a whirl and see how it goes. I read This Naked Mind in preparation of next month and honestly I’ve already started drinking less. I can’t tell you the last Friday I didn’t have a drink but after reading the book, I lost desire to poor a glass of wine just because it was Friday. And it has been VERY nice not feeling like shit on Saturday morning. I’ve also been listening to some good podcasts about the effect of alcohol on our bodies and it has me excited to try out this Sober October. I am going on a girls trip to celebrate a good friend’s 40th in November so I don’t think this will be a permanent thing but a good 31 day reset sounds great.

Also, if you’re like us and enjoy all things anti-aging go enter our giveaway for the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask! The contest closes on Thursday 9/28 at 11:59pm. I’ve been using mine and really like it! Its very relaxing and forces you to just sit for 10 minutes which I find amazing.

What I’m Reading, Watching, and Listening to:

Books-

This Naked Mind by Annie Grace - A great book for anyone curious about taking a break or giving up alcohol. The author provides some interesting information in a non-judgmental, informative way.

Atomic Habits by James Clear - I read this book last year and loved it so I’m re-reading it now to get a refresh and to keep improving my day to day.

Shows/Movies-

The Diplomat - I loved Homeland and Tehran and and always looking for a show with a similar vibe. The Diplomat is that and more. Keri Russel is the main character and is a little more likeable than Claire Danes.

Real Housewives of NYC - If I ever stop watching The Real Housewives, call my doc because something is wrong. I’m loving this new cast in NYC…they’ve got some good drama, great outfits, and some sob stories which is a the recipe for a great show.

The Summer I Turned Pretty - A few friends recommended this show and I was so hesitant to start it because it seemed like a teen show…well I finally did and it is def a teen show but OMG could not turn it off. Def a good girl show for some laughs and cries.

Podcasts-

Move with Heart - I’ve been following Melissa Wood Tepperberg since my Mac & Mia days and love her newish podcast. She is so authentic and discusses some interesting topics.

The Mel Robbins Podcast - I love this podcast for motivation and inspiration. She’s no nonsense and has some amazing guests.

Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald - Once I’ve tired of all the positive motivational vibes, I always come back to Juicy Scoop for my pop culture/reality TV gossip fix. That or Dateline for a good murder podcast…I can only keep the positive mindset for so long.

7 Things I’m Loving Now

My Pretty Straps - Our friend Jess had one of these bands on and I had to have it! Their prices are reasonable and the quality is pretty good!

Sandwash Crew from Target - I’ve had these crewnecks for a month and they have quickly become part of my weekly uniform. They’re a good Lulu knockoff and they are so so so soft. I need them to hurry up and get some other colors in stock.

Harmony Supplement - I’ve been on a supplement kick lately and my fave influencer, Helen Leland of Blender Bombs talked about how much she loved it so of course I jumped on the bandwagon. I’ve really enjoy it and feel like it’s helped keep me level. Added bonus - it tastes great! I put it in coffee a lot and love it.

Feat Set - I’m in my lounge wear set era when I get home and this Feat Blanketblend set is legit like wearing a blanket.

Lug Sole Loafers - I bought my first pair of Lug Sole Loafers last year and now I need every color.

Trader Joe’s Tomato Feta Soup - I could eat this everyday for lunch. I add feta and Avocado and it keeps me full for hours.

Intermittent Fasting - I tried Intermittent Fasting to lose the last few pounds of baby weight after I had Payton and it really helped me lose the weight and I liked how I felt on the days fasted. I I recently started doing it again 4-5 days/week and it’s helped me with energy and to not just pick off the kids plates in the morning just out of habit even if I’m not hungry. I usually do a 16 hour fast and 8 hour eating window which feels manageable. I’m not strict with it but I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts about fasting and really enjoy learning about the benefits. And hey if it helps me a lose a few pounds in the process then it’s a win all around!
