The Best Self-Help Books for Moms

Pre-kids, I would read 2-3 books a week, and reading at the beach was my favorite thing to do. 3 kids later, it's hard for me to finish a book a month! I still love a good beach read, but with limited hours in the day, my nightstand is full of mostly self-help and parenting books. Here are some of my favorites!

The Best Self Help Books for Moms

How to Not Hate Your Husband After Kids - This is a must-read for anyone who is struggling with finding balance with your spouse after you have kids. When we went from 1 kid to 2, everything felt chaotic and this book helped me shift my perspective. That's not saying I don't still want to strangle my hubby some days, but things are much more peaceful after reading this book!

How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen - We skipped over the terrible twos with our first and thought we just had a little angel who would NEVER defy us and throw tantrums. That all changed the minute he turned 3. He was constantly whining, tantruming, and acting out. We were SHOOK! I did what I always do and turned to the internet for guidance and stumbled on this book. It has been tremendously helpful in understanding how children's brains work and learning how to communicate effectively with them. We still have our bad days, but I break this book out whenever I'm feeling like I need a refresh of my "mom tool kit".

Atomic Habits - Pre-Covid19, things were feeling so I turned to this book to make some changes and create better habits in hopes of finding some balance and create efficiencies. I really like how it is written and there are some good (relatively easy) things you can do to make changes in your life. While things have been turned upside down with Covid19, these habits I've created have made my days feel a little less challenging.

The Daily Stoic - Full disclosure, I was influenced by the girls of Somewhere Lately but I've been reading the daily meditations each night before bed and they are really great for shifting perspective. Each meditation is less than a page, so it is not a big commitment but it has been good for shifting my mindset into a more positive space.

No-Drama Discipline - This book was another purchase I made when my angel two-year-old morphed into a threenager overnight. The author breaks the lessons into real-life examples that are easy to read and understand. It's definitely a good read for parents of toddlers and preschoolers!

Good Inside - I’m a big fan of Dr. Becky and I appreciate her approach that it is never too late to repair. She is all over Instagram and the podcast world but I love having the book to keep the topics front of mind.
